Incidence of post operative fever in patients undergoing elective and emergency general surgical procedures

ABSTRACT
The objective of the study was to determine the incidence of fever during postoperative period in patients undergoing elective and emergency general surgical procedures in Surgical Unit II of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Lahore. It was a clinical descriptive Study. The Study was conducted in Surgical Unit 11, at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore Period of Study March, 2007 to June 2008. A total of 100 patients who underwent various elective and emergency general surgical procedures were included in the study. The patients were selected randomly. 30 patients out of the 100 patients, develop fever in post operative period. Incidence is different in different age groups, sex and surgical procedures. The incidence of post operative fever is 30%. The highest incidence is seen in age group 51-60 years and in the patients undergoing general surgical procedure in emergency or receiving general procedure in emergency or receiving anaesthesia and in procedures lasting more than half an hour
