ABSTRACT
Study of renal insulin extraction was carried out in group of diabetics with and without renal insufficiency. The study was performed before and after giving probenecid and fursemide. Both drugs produced no significant changes in arterial insulin levels and renal insulin extraction. However fursemide produced some increase in renal insulin clearance in patients and controls with normal renal function. It is thus clear that administration of probenecid does not affect insulin requirement n diabetic patients. However, the increased insulin clearance and increased renal insulin uptake in diabetics with renal sufficiency after fursemide may suggest that care should be taken in the administration of this drug in diabetics
