Serum total testosterone and estradiol in seborrhea and acne vulgaris

ABSTRACT
Twenty patients with acne vulgaris, twenty patients with dandruff and 18 control subject were included in this study. Determination of the serum total testosterone and estradiol levels were performed by a specific-radioimmunoassay method. The mean serum total testosterone levels in females and males with acne vulgaris were found to be significantly higher than that of controls. An insignificant change was observed concerning total testosterone and estradiol levels in male patients with dandruff. But the serum testosterone and estradiol levels in female patients with dandruff were significantly higher than in male controls. The significance of these results in the pathogenesis and treatment of acne vulgaris is discussed
