Postoperative nausea and vomiting [PONV]: a cause for concern

ABSTRACT

Postoperative nausea and vomiting [PONV] has been a cause for concern, not only for the anesthesiologist but also for the patients. It is troublesome and may cause many untoward physiological consequences. Various authors have studied risk factors associated with it and management strategies, but the results have been confusing. Many new drugs have been developed for preventing and treating PONV, including ondansetron and palonosetron, and the research for the more effective and safe anti-emetic drug continues.
