ABSTRACT
Phytochemical investigation of Emex spinosus [L.] Campd. [Polygonaceae] revealed the presence of five anthraquinone pigments, chrsysophanol, physcion, emodin, aloe emodin and chrysophanin, a mixture of three delta5 sterols [beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and campesterol] in addition to beta-sitosterol-3 beta-D- glucoside. Identification was performed by physical, chemical and spectroscopic methods:
