The management of abnormal uterine bleeding in patients with uterine fibroids

ABSTRACT
Background and

Objective:

evaluation the treatment of organic abnormal uterine bleeding [OAUB] caused by uterine fibroids using intra uterine device [IUD] releasing levonorgestrel..

Methods:

This practical, prospective included 43 patients complaining from OABD, exactly from menorrhagia, hypermenorrhea or from both together simultaneously, sometimes. The final diagnosis is made after exclusion the non organic causes of AUB dysfunctional uterine bleeding and the other organic causes except uterine fibroids. The management by IUD – releasing levonorgestrel in the rate of 20ug/24 hours is applied on each patient of our study

Results:

The follow – up of the patients after 6 months from the onset of treatment revealed 26 patients [60.46%] relieved form AUB, whereas the number of patients who relieved from AUB after one year from the onset treatment increased to 35 patients [81.39%].

Conclusions:

According the study's data, this method of management AUB is considered very efficient and safe, encouraging us to apply it. KeyWords Organic abnormal uterine bleeding, Intra uterine device – releasing levonorgestrel
