ABSTRACT
This study was to evaluate the effects of interferon of alpha- 2 bon the development of submandibular salivary glands of co-1 mice neonates. Twenty adult female and ten adult male alboi mice [cd-1] of average weight 110-120gm were used in this study. They were divided into 2 groups, ten females and five males each, group, [control] inject by 0.1ml of sterile water subcutaneously three times per week, two weeks before breeding and during pregnancy, group II [experimental] injected by the same way as control by recombinant human interferon alpha -2b by dose of 10.000iu in .1 ml sterile water. Histological examination of the developing submandibular salivary glands reveled retardation in development, indistinct cell boundaries of acini and ducts as well as some acini have lost nuclei and appear as a homogenous mass due to atrophic and degenerative changes. The photochemical results showed an increased content and concentration of both neutral mucosubstances and acid mucopolysaccharides in experimental group than those noted in control group from these results it is conceivably to conclude that the interferon alpha- 2b, in prolonged duration of treatment lead to harmful effect on developing salivary glands
