ABSTRACT
The current study revealed lower serum magnesium levels in the severely preeclamptic patients compared to normal pregnant women. Such low levels were almost similar among the three categories of the study group. This may incriminate [hypomagenisemia] in the pathogenesis of preeclapsia-eclampsia. On the other hand trying to protect pregnant women from this vulnerable condition, the finding of the present study may justify [magnesium supplementation] during early gestation. Regarding management, Mg S04 continues to be the drug of choice in preeclampsis-eclampsia since no patient developed fit while receiving the maintenance dose. However, confirmation of this conculsion necessitate further investigation on a large group of patients. Also prospective nature should be considered in studies, specially those carried out to approve the possible prophylactic role of this ion
