Pyogenic cerebral abscess-study of 16 cases

ABSTRACT
We report 16 cases of pyogenic brain abcess occurring in 14 men and 2 women in whom mean age is 32.5 years. Fever, headache and vomiting are found in two thirds of cases, and impaired consciousness are present in half of the patients. Bacterial meningitis is the supposed source of infection in 69% of cases. Abcesses of the cerebellar and the frontal lobes are the most common. Bacterial analysis find gram positive cocci in 4 cases and gram negative bacilli in 4 cases respectively. The outcome is specified in 13 cases. A complete cure is obtained in 9 patients from whom 6 are managed with antibiotics alone. 4 patients are dead
