ABSTRACT
All pttients [100] aged 60 years or below who were admitted to any of the general hospitals in Bahrain with a diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction [AMI] during the period starting february 1st 1983 and ending September 4th of the same year were included in the study. The patients were analysed with respect to the prevalence of the well established risk factors. History of smoking was the most prevalent risk factor [82.0%] followed by history of hypertension [28.0%] previous history of ischaemic heart disease [25.0%], family history of ischaemic heart disease [14.0%], history of diabetes [13.0%] and elevated blood cholesterol [10.5%]. The lower proportions obtained for some of the factors in comparison with those in the region are most probably due to the younger age group of this study population
