ABSTRACT
Although bifocal contact lenses are now available for the increasing presbyopic population, the selection and fitting of these lenses retains its drawbacks. In a study of 18 presbyopes, 10 were fitted with Acuvue contact lenses applying the monovision technique; 8 were fitted with bifocal contact lenses. The technique of monovision using the conventional contact lens proved to be as sufficient and reliable as the bifocal contact lens.

Conclusions:

Monovision with contact lenses in presbyopes is an adequate alternative to bifocal contact lenses. Further studies are warranted
