ABSTRACT
An overview of childhood renal disoreders in Qatar is presented, based on the experience at the only teaching and referral hospital in the state, the spectrum of disease is similar to other parts of the world. However, there is more of heredofamilial disorders. The most common cause of nominimal change nephritic syndrome is focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. Acute glomerulonephritis and hypotension are the most common cause of acute renal failure in children and neonates respectively. The most common casue of end stage renal disease is obstructive uropathy especially posterior urethral valves. Urolithiasis is common and may be prevented by adequate fluid intake in hot weather. Hematuria hypercalciuria syndrome is an important cause of hematuria. Reflex nephropathy is preventable and it's incidence has decreased due to aggressive management of urinary tract infections. This review of childhood kidney disease in the Gulf is a reflection of patients seen at Hamad General Hospital [HGH] over the past ten years [april 1982 till December 1992]. Reports from this part of the world are scanty. There is no previous similar report from Qatar
