ABSTRACT
Cataract is an important cause of visual impairment in childhood. The child's eye differs from that of adult. Therefore the surgical technique should be modified to avoid difficulties encountered in pediatric cataract surgery Sixty five eyes of 56 children were operated upon for cataract extraction and primary posterior chamber IOL. We used the limbal approach primary posterior capsulotomy and anterior vitrectomy and placed the IOL in capsular bag remnants. An anterior chamber maintainer was very valuable to prevent globe collapse, to perform a controlled capsulotomy, to introduce the IOL and to close the Wound. Postoperatively we had a low rate of posterior capsule opacification, low rate of post operative inflammation and high rate of vision improvement
