ABSTRACT
The pulmonary edema[PE] is a rare but serious complication of the pregnancy induced hypertension [PIH]. PE is an obstetrical emergency that represent a threat to the mother and her foetus. The incidence of the PE in our ward is 7,6%. We report 13 cases in the obstetric intensive care unit [Maternit de Rabat] during a period of 18 months. The average age of our patients is 27 years, 70% are primiparous, 2 had twin gestation. In 7 cases, the PE occur during the 3rd trimester. The diagnosis is based on clinical respiratory disease associated with radiological signs of PE. The severity of the PIH is meseared by the presence of other complications of this disease [Eclampsia23%, Acute renal failure 60%]. The treatment consisted of respiratory assistance, vasodilator therapy, diuretic and nitroglycerin. The outcome was favourable, there was only one maternal death caused by a nosocomial lung infection. However, the perinatal mortality is high[40%]
