Hydatidosis of the orbit

Combined parasitological and Ophthalmological examinations were carried out on 12 patients presented to eye clinics with proptosis of the orbit. The results showed that hydatidosis is one of the causes of unilateral proptosis of the eye, and Casoni intradermal test should be done as routine before confirmation of the diagnosis by histopathological examination. Counter-immunoelectrophoresis [CIEP] test and ultrasonography should be employed as an aid in diagnosis
