Self-medication pattern among Sudanese

ABSTRACT
Data on self-medication were randomly collected at different pharmacy outlets in different parts of the Sudan. The study revealed the increased role of the non professionally educated Pharmacy staff in counter dispensing [38.1%], and the decreasing role of the qualified Pharmacist [25.9%]. The socioeconomic factors having a paramount influence on the rational use of drugs, this was shown by the higher rate of economic factor [32.2%] as the main mentioned cause for self- medication. Dispensers also shown a less care given to the patients during counter dispensing; as a result a high ignorance rate of drug's use knowledge was obtained. The study provided the fact that, self-medication was less popular among illiterates [9.7%]
