ABSTRACT
49 subtrochanteric fractures of the femur were managed and followed up for an average period of 1.3 years. Nine fractures [18.4%] were managed conservatively and resulted in 55.6% malunion, 11.1% delayed union and 33.3% nonunion. 40 fractures were managed surgically, 15 by the ASIF blade plate, 8 by the Jewett nail plate, 5 by the McLaughlin's nail plate, 7 by the Kuntsher nail and 5 by the dynamic compression plate. The surgical management resulted in 55% perfect union, 25% delayed union, 2.5% malunion and 17.5% nonunion. The ASIF blade plate had the best results of 73.3% perfect union among other implants
