ABSTRACT
Intrauterine death of one twin is a rare obstetric complication occurring in 112000 live births or 1184 twin births. 11 such cases were seen in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology - JPMC over a 12 month period. 8 of the 11 mothers exhibited hypertension suggesting a hostile intrauterine environment. Two had abruptio placentae and one had a cord accident. Pregnancy proceed to term in 5 cases only, giving a high incidince prematurity. 6 babes required specialized paediatric care and of these five died in the nursery. One twin with hydrocephalus at birth has survived to 6 months of age, but has bilateral encephalomalacia of cerepral hemispheres. High risk opestetric and careful paediatric follow up is recommended
