ABSTRACT
The changes in phytoplankton size and species composition in the Nile water near the Egyptian Starch and Glucose Factory were studied from October 1987 to September 1988. The standing crop showed distinct seasonal variations. The dominance of algal groups was in the order Chlorophyta > Bacillariophyta > Cyanophyta > Euglenophyta. The number of species found in the polluted section was low but always higher than in the unpolluted section
