RESUMO
The search for an anatmoic justification for the occurrence of the inguinal hernia led to the study of the inferomedial attachment of the internal oblique abdominis muscle in 84 inguino-hypogastric regions of individuals not presenting inguinal hernia and in 84 inguino-hypogastric regions of individuals presenting inguinal hernia. It was concluded that the inferomedial attachment of the internal oblique abdominis may occur either at the pubis or the sheath of the recuts adominis, both in individuals bearing inguinal hernia and in those do not present this condition. The absence of public attachment in the inguinohypogastric region is similar whether or not the individual presents inguinal hernia. The absence of public attachment is of 96,55 (p<0,001) in areas with direct inguinal hernia, which means that the absence of publlic attachment of the internal oblique abdominis in the inguino-hypogastric regions presenting direct inguinal hernia may be the predisposing factor in the pathogenesis of this type of hernia.
