ABSTRACT
Objective:
Fibromyalgia syndrome is often accompanied by chronic insomnia. The objective of this study is to analyze the adaptive efficacy of patients with fibromyalgia syndrome and chronic insomnia and to correlate with chief psychodynamic aspects. Methods:
For this purpose the Preventive Clinical Interview and the Ryad Simon Operational Adaptive Diagnostic Scale (Escala Diagnóstica Adaptativa Operacionalizada- EDAO) was utilized. Twenty-one patients with a mean age of 47.4 years (2 males; 19 females) were studied. Results:
Two (10) were diagnosed with Severe Adaptive Inefficacy; ten (47) with High Adaptive Inefficacy; five (24) with Moderate Adaptive Inefficacy; and four (19) with Mild Adaptive Inefficacy. Impairment occurred mainly in two sectors productivity and affective relationships. Conclusions:
Adaptive efficacy indicated that in these 21 patients studied the adaptive solutions were impaired, with solutions that are not gratifying and that also result in conflicts, severe impairment of interpersonal and social relationships and limitations with pain and chronic insomnia.
