Avaliação da capacidade funcional em idosos com Acidente Vascular Encefálico / Evaluation the quality of life in elderly with stroke: a exploratory and transversal study

ABSTRACT

To evaluate quality of life in elderly with stroke and to investigate the relationship, and the influence of social-demographic variables and health in quality of life of those subjects. Quality of life was evaluated by SF-36 - "The Medical Outcomes Study 36-item shorts-form health survey". Analysis of variance and multivariate analysis of variance were applied to investigate influence of age, caregivers' presence and stroke in the dimensions of SF-36. Functional capacity and overall health presented, respectively, the smallest and the largest means among the domains of SF-36. The variables that influenced the functional capacity were closeness of caregiver, hemiparesis and no access to health services. Social-demographic variables and current sequels of stroke influenced quality of life of the elderly stroke survivors, and the functional capacity was the most committed dimension of SF-36. Recovery actions and rehabilitation addressed the elderly' peculiarities can benefit that population. Actions aming at recovery and rehabilitation addressing those elderly and their peculiarities can benefit this population.

RESUMO

Avaliar a qualidade de vida de idosos com AVE e investigar a relação, e a influência de variáveis sociodemográficas e de saúde na qualidade de vida desses sujeitos. A qualidade de vida foi avaliada por meio do SF-36 - ôThe Medical Outcomes Study 36-item short-form health surveyô. A análise de variância univariada e multivariada foram aplicadas para verificar a influência da idade, da presença do cuidador e do AVE nas dimensões do SF-36. A capacidade funcional e estado geral de saúde apresentaram, respectivamente, a menor e a maior média entre as dimensões do SF-36. A capacidade funcional foi a única dimensão do SF-36 influenciada pelas variáveis pesquisadas, sendo a presença do cuidador, hemiparesia e não ter acesso ao serviço de saúde as variáveis com significância estatística. Variáveis sociodemográficas e seqüelas decorrentes do AVE influenciaram a qualidade de vida dos idosos com AVE, e a capacidade funcional foi a dimensão mais comprometida do SF-36. Ações de recuperação e reabilitação direcionadas as peculiaridades dos idosos podem beneficiar essa população.
