Força de preensão palmar e diabetes mellitus / Handgrip strength and diabetes mellitus

RESUMO

Justificativa e objetivos: O presente estudo teve como objetivo fazer uma revisão na literatura sobre a relação entre a força de preensão manual e o diabetes mellitus (DM). Conteúdo Foi realizada uma pesquisa utilizando as bases de dados MedLine, SciElo, BIREME, LILACS e diretório CAPES utilizando-se os descritores força de preensão palmar, função manual, dinamometria, desordens musculoesqueléticas e diabetes mellitus, publicados até fevereiro de 2009. Conclusão: Na literatura atual, poucas referências relacionam diretamente a avaliação da força de preensão palmar como um elemento de avaliação clínica em diabéticos. Os resultados demonstram que há um declínio na força de preensão palmar em pacientes com diabetes mellitus.

ABSTRACT

Background and objectives: The present study has been the objective to do a literature review about the relation between handgrip strength and diabetes mellitus (DM). Contents It was done a review with the basis of data MedLine, SciElo, BIREME, LILACS and in the CAPES directory using the keywords handgrip strength, diabetes Mellitus, hand function, dynamometry and musculoskeletal disorders published until February 2009. Conclusion: In the actual literature few references relates directly the evaluation of handgrip strength as an element of clinical evaluation in diabetics. The results show that there is a decrease in the handgrip strength in patients with diabetes Mellitus.
