Caracterización del paciente anciano con hemorragia digestiva alta / Characterization of the elderly patient with upper digestive hemorrhage

RESUMEN
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, observacional y transversal de 40 ancianos con hemorragia digestiva alta, ingresados en el Servicio de Cirugía General del Hospital Clinicoquirúrgico Docente Dr Ambrosio Grillo Portuondo de Santiago de Cuba durante el 2007, a fin de caracterizarles mediante una serie de variables relacionadas con este diagnóstico. Los datos primarios se extrajeron de las historias clínicas correspondientes. Entre los principales resultados sobresalieron el sexo masculino, el grupo etario de 60 a 69 años, las enfermedades cardiovasculares asociadas, el consumo de alcohol y café como hábitos tóxicos y la ingestión de medicamentos antiinflamatorios no esteroideos y aspirina como fármacos ulcerogénicos. El diagnóstico se estableció mediante la radiografía con contraste baritado y la úlcera gastroduodenal fue la causa más frecuente; el tratamiento médico resultó ser el más utilizado y la mayoría de los pacientes egresaron entre 1 y 7 días luego de su hospitalización.
ABSTRACT
A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study of 40 elderly patients with upper digestive hemorrhage, admitted at the Service of General Surgery of Dr Ambrosio Grillo Portuondo Teaching Clinical-Surgical Hospital from Santiago de Cuba during the 2007 was carried out, in order to characterize them by means of a series of variables related to this diagnosis. The primary data were obtained from the corresponding medical records. Among the main results there were the male sex, the age group from 60 to 69 years, the associated cardiovascular diseases, the alcohol and coffee intake as toxic habits and the use of anti-inflammatory and non-steroid medications and aspirin as ulcerogenic drug. The diagnosis was reached by means of the barium contrast x-ray and the gastroduodenal ulcer was the most frequent cause; the medical treatment was the most used and most of the patients were discharged between 1 and 7 days after their hospitalization.
