O Cirurgião-dentista como parte integrante da equipe multidisciplinar direcionada à população idosa dependente no ambiente do domiciliar / The dentist as a member of a multidisciplinary team focused on dental home care in a dependent older population

RESUMO

Será que o Cirurgião-dentista está preparado e treinado para realizar o atendimento odontológico domiciliar do paciente idoso dependente? A odontologia domiciliar consiste na adequação necessária do profisional da odontologia em assistir o paciente em seu domicílio ou ambiente hospitar, ou seja, fora do seu consultório. Corresponde à interação clínico-científica com profissionais da saúde direcionados em promover a qualidade de vida e bem-estar de um específico grupo populacional. O maior público desse atendimento,atualmente, são os pacientes idosos e dependentes que sofreram de envolvimentos sistêmicos. O presente trabalho tem por finalidade abordar o manejo odontológico ao paciente idoso dependente, técnicas e adaptações na preveenção e promoção da saúde bucal nessa população.

ABSTRACT

Is the dentist prepared and traied to perform dental home care of elderly dependent patients? Dental home care service consist in the dentist's adaptation to assist the patients at there home or hospital, in other words outside his/her regular dental office. It involvers th clinical and scientific interaction between helath professional who promote a betterr quality of life and well being for a specific population. The greatest users of this type of assistance are elderly dpendent patients who suffer from systemic conditions. The purpose of the present work is to describe the dental procedures used in the elderly dependent patients, the techniques and adjustments needed to perform prevention and promote of oral health on this population.
