Educação em saúde e suas versões na história brasileira / Health education and its versions in brazilian history

RESUMO

O presente ensaio tem o objetivo de analisar historicamente as práticas de educação em saúde no Brasil durante o período Republicano. Com base em uma retrospectiva das práticas de educação em saúde e dos discursos a elas subjacentes são reconstituídas as racionalidades determinantes de tais práticas. Durante os períodos Higienista e o da Educação Sanitária, as ações educativas no campo da saúde foram vistas como a transmissão de conhecimentos de alguém detentor do saber científico para alguém sem conhecimento, desconsiderando o saber popular. Hoje, o objetivo da educação em saúde é desenvolver nas pessoas o senso de responsabilidade por sua própria saúde e pela saúde da comunidade à qual pertencem. Concluiu-se que, atualmente, há um descompasso entre teoria e prática, pois, a despeito de uma nova concepção de educação em saúde emancipadora, as atividades educativas ainda têm caráter higienista, imperativo e de transmissão vertical de conhecimentos, em um retorno histórico às raízes da educação em saúde.

ABSTRACT

This essay aims at analyzing historical practice of health education in Brazil during the Republican period.Starting with a retrospective of health education practices and discourses underlying them, the rationale of such practices is reconstructed. During periods of hygiene and health education, education focused on health was seen as the transmission of knowledge from one holder of scientific knowledge to someone "with no knowledge", disregarding common sense. Today, the goal of health education is to develop in people a sense of responsibility towards their own health and the health of the community in which they belong. It is concluded that currently there is a gap between theory and practice, and although a new concept of liberating health education, educational activities are still hygienist, imperative and with linear transmission of knowledge character, tracing a historic return to the roots of health education.
