Urgencias de prótesis bucomaxilofacial en el municipio Camagüey / Urgencies of buccomaxillofacial prosthesis in Camagüey municipality

RESUMEN

Fundamento Toda persona tiene una imagen, concepto y valoración de sí mismo que en gran parte regula y dirige su conducta, planes y proyectos futuros. La pérdida de cualquier parte del cuerpo no resulta fácilmente aceptada por la mayoría de las personas. Si se refiere particularmente a zonas del rostro, su aceptación se torna aún más difícil. Objetivo: Determinar la necesidad demandada de prótesis bucomaxilofacial en el municipio Camagüey. Método: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo en la población del municipio de Camagüey con el objetivo de identificar las necesidades de prótesis bucomaxilofaciales, según variables demográficas de edad, sexo, tipo de defecto y causas, en el período comprendido de junio del 2006 a junio del 2007.Resultados: Se identificaron ciento veinticinco pacientes afectados en la población estudiada, representando una tasa de prevalencia de 3,8 por diez mil habitantes. Los defectos más frecuentes fueron los oculares y la etiología traumática predominó respecto al resto; el grupo de edad más afectado fue el de sesenta años y más; la mayor cantidad de casos correspondió al sexo masculino. Conclusiones: La tasa general de prevalencia de necesidad de Prótesis Bucomaxilofacial en el municipio Camaguey fue de 3,8 por cada diez mil habitantes con un total de ciento veinticinco afectados. La edad con mayor riesgo que padeció estos defectos fue el grupo de treinta y cinco a cincuenta y nueve años. Predominó el sexo masculino con estos defectos faciales. La lesión de mayor número de pacientes fue la ocular con ochenta afectados. El factor etiológico más frecuente resultó ser el traumatismo.

ABSTRACT

Background: Every person has an image, concept and oneself valuation that largely regulates and directs their behavior, plans and future projects. The loss of any part of the body is not easily accepted by most of the people. If it refers particularly to the face areas their acceptance it is even more difficult. Objectives: To determine the requested necessity of buccomaxillofacial prosthesis in Camagüey municipality. Method: A descriptive study in the population of Camagüey municipality was performed with the objective of identifying the necessities of buccomaxillofacial prosthesis according to demographic variables of age, sex, type of defect and causes, from June 2006 to June 2007. Results: One hundred twenty–five patients were identified as affected in the studied population, representing a rate of prevalence of 3.8 for 10 000 inhabitants. The most frequent defects were the ocular and the traumatic etiology prevailed regarding the rest; the most affected age group was that of 60 years and more; and the greater quantity of cases corresponded to the masculine sex. Conclusions: The general rate of prevalence of the necessity of buccomaxillofacial prosthesis in Camagüey municipality were about 3,8 for each 10 000 inhabitants with a total of one hundred twenty–five affected patients. The age with bigger risk that suffered these defects was the 35-59 year-old group. The masculine sex prevailed with these facial defects. The lesion of greater number of patients was the ocular one with 81 affected. The most frequent etiologic factor turned out to be the traumatism.
