O cinema de ficção científica e a questão do imaginário social

RESUMO

Na maior parte dos filmes de ficção científica norteamericanos, o discurso ideológico apropria-se de elementos do universo imaginário, para justificar seus projetos, no seio dos conflitos de poder. O imaginário social, situado além das manipulações ideológicas, preside a produção de significações que são o 'amálgama' das instituições sociais. Na sociedade capitalista ocidental, cuja identidade apóia-se na idéia de racionalidade, o imaginário está tão presente quanto em sociedades consideradas arcaicas e primitivas. Os mecanismos sociais que viabilizam a expressão do imaginário cumprem papel histórico na popularização de questões científico-tecnológicas, contribuindo para a configuração de quadros de referência e de uso de novas tecnologias. Nesse sentido, os cenários sociais propícios para o desenvolvimento das narrativas de ficção científica reúnem o desejo de conquistar e colonizar territórios e tempos ainda não desbravados. O traço mítico dessas narrativas refere-se às preocupações quanto ao destino da Humanidade, no seio das tensões e paradoxos gerados pelo desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico da sociedade capitalista. Finalmente, prevalece, nessas histórias, o desejo de voltar ao princípio, no anel de moebius do tempo, onde passado remoto e futuro longínquo encontram-se, na grande viagem da saga Humana.

ABSTRACT

In the great part of the North American science fiction movies, the ideological speech, which guides its narra tions, takes elements belonging to the imaginary universe in order to justify its projects. Nevertheless, the social imaginary situated beyond ideological manipulations produces the "cement" of social institutions. In the occidental capitalist society, whose identity is supported in the rationality idea, the imaginary is as present as in societies considered archaic and primitive. The mechanisms that give expression to the imaginary playa historic role in popularizing the scientific and technological issues. In this direction, the propitious social scenes for the development of the narratives of science fiction are based on the desire to conquer and to colonize territories and times not yet conquered. The mythical trace of these narratives men¬tions the questions about the humanity destiny, at the centre of the tensions and paradoxes generated by scientific and technological development of the capitalist society. Finally, in science fiction histories the first motivation is the primeval desire to go back to the moebius ring of the time, to the mythic link where the remote past and the far future interconnect to give sense to the greatest journey of Human saga.
