ABSTRACT
The sugar has been used for a long time for the treatment of infected wounds due to its bactericide and bacteriostatic effects on wound-healing. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness of the granulated sugar in the treatment of contaminated wound in sheep, through the measure of the evolution of the cicatricial tissue and repair of the lesion during the period of healing. The entirely cicatrization occurred after 77 days of treatment and the tissue healing was 1,95 mm a day. The granulated sugar in the treatment of infected wounds in sheep was shown effective, practical and of low cost, allowing to control the local infection without the antibiotic therapy adoption, and stimulate the healing process, consequently, inhibiting secondary complications.
