RESUMO

Este artigo apresenta o percurso do negro na constituição de nossa matriz cultural, destacando a sua capacidade e resistência às pressões oficiais advindas dos interesses de uma elite branca e letrada. A visão preconceituosa presente desde o Brasil Colônia não conseguiu apagar o Homem negro como sujeito histórico que agiu em defesa de sua identidade sócio-cultural. Apoiado em textos representativos da afirmação da etnia negra em nossa formação social, os autores revelam a força do batuque, não apenas na sustentação da música ou do ato de tocar e dançar, mas como uma forma de resistência no universo da cultura afro no Brasil. Dos seus argumentos, pode-se depreender a força das manifestações sonoras, ritmadas, dos negros (escravos, libertos, forros e livres), que fincaram raízes profundas nas músicas genuinamente brasileiras dos dias atuais e em outras manifestações de nossa cultura.

ABSTRACT

This study presents the trajectory of black people in constituting our cultural matrix, highlighting their ability and resistance to the official pressures that come from a white and literate elite. The prejudiced view that is common since Colonial Brazil failed to erase the black man as a historical subject who acted in defense of their socio-cultural identity. Supported by representative texts on the assertion of black ethnicity in our social order, the authors reveal the power of drumming, not only in supporting music or the act of playing and dancing, but as a manifestation of resistance in the world of African culture in Brazil. From their arguments, one can deduce the strength of sound and rhythm manifested by the black people (slaves, freedmen) who planted deep roots in the genuine Brazilian music and in other manifestations of our culture.
