ABSTRACT
This is a mini-ethnography, with the aim of analyzing the symbolic representations of drugs for hypertensive patients. The informants were 15 people with hypertension and assisted by the Family Health Strategy. We conducted the research through interviews, participant observations and records in diary. The analysis, using the hermeneutic dialectic, revealed three categories with symbolic representations of sovereignty, the power of healing and absence of risks, which put the medicine, as a social object, in a position of determinant of good health. We concluded that the criticism, the understanding of the therapeutic process and the appreciation of culture and subjectivity have not been stimulated and / or performed, due to biomedical reductionism and the hegemony of this model in the society.
