El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo caracterizar el suicidio en adultos jóvenesdel área metropolitana del departamento de Risaralda, Colombia, en el período de2005-2011. Para ello se llevó a cabo un estudio descriptivo transversal mediante elanálisis de la base de datos de suicidios, suministrada por el Instituto Nacional deMedicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses del departamento de Risaralda; las tasas secalcularon con las proyecciones poblacionales del Departamento AdministrativoNacional de Estadística. En el período estudiado se presentaron 118 casos enadultos jóvenes, 82,2 % hombres y 18,8 % mujeres. Pereira aportó el 78 % de loscasos. El mecanismo más utilizado fue el ahorcamiento, con un 45,7 %; seguido dearma de fuego, con 22 %. Referente a la escolaridad, el 28 % solo tenía estudiosprimarios y los 30,5 %, secundarios. Predominaron los solteros con 56,8 % sobrecualquier otro estado civil. La tasa específica del período se ubicó en 9,2 x 100 000habitantes; 15,5 para hombres y 3,2 en mujeres. Estas altas cifras ponen demanifiesto la necesidad de seguir ahondando en el tema y reclaman a lasautoridades competentes mayores planes de prevención...
ABSTRACT
The aim of the current study was characterizing suicide in young adults of themetropolitan area of the department of Risalda, Colombia in the period 2005-2011.For that we carried out a transversal descriptive study analyzing the suicidedatabase, given by the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences ofthe Department of Risalda; the rates were calculated using the populationprojections of the National Administrative Department of Statistics. There were 118cases of suicide among young adults in the studied period, 82,2 % men and 18,8 %women. Pereira contributed with 78 % of the cases. The most used mechanism washanging, with 45,7 %, followed by firearms, with 22 %. Regarding scholarship, 28% only had finished the primary school and 30,5 %, the secondary school. Therewas a predomination of bachelors with 56,8 % over the rest of the marital status.The specific rate of the period was 9,2 x 100 000 inhabitants; 15,5 for men and3,2 for women.
