ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between physical activity level and age of elderly women living in Belém, Pará, Brazil. The sample consisted of 775 elderly aged between 60 and 80 years (70 ± 6 years, BMI 26.7 ± 4.1 Kg/m2). To check the physical activity level was used International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short version. The cluster analysis was used to divide the observed universe in three classes of physical activity levels, with 66.6%, 31.0% and 2.3% for ratings less active, active and very active, respectively. The Pearson Chi-Square showed significant association between IPAQ scores and age (r= 0.602; p<0.001). Thus this study indicates that the greater the age, the lower the physical activity level in the elderly.
