ABSTRACT
The present study aims to analyze the relationship of the plantar arch index with the postural balance in young women. To obtain the plantar arch index (IAP) was used the method of printing plant, with a plantar foot pressure. Data from the postural balance was obtained by a AMTI force platform, the variables used were range of anteroposterior displacement of the center of pressure (COPap), amplitude of displacement of the medial-lateral COP (COPml) and average speed of displacement of the COP (COPvel) and area of the ellipse (ellipse). The results revealed moderate positive correlations between the two variables (COP speed and area of the ellipse), and IAP in the eyes closed condition, indicating that the higher the index of the plantar arch (flat feet tend to) the greater the body sway of these young people. We conclude that individuals with greater lowering of the medial longitudinal arch, in other words, higher IAP, have an increased postural sway.
