Avaliação das alterações das dimensões dos arcos dentários pós-nivelamento com a utilização de aparelhos autoligáveis / Evaluation of changes in dental arch dimensions in after leveling with the use of self-ligating appliances

RESUMO

Este trabalho propôs-se a avaliar as alterações nas dimensões dos arcos dentários durante o alinhamento e o nivelamento em casos tratados com aparelhos autoligáveis. O estudo foi realizado em pacientes com dentição permanente completa até os primeiros molares. Foram avaliadas as seguintes medidas distância intercaninos (A), distância interpré-molares (B) e (B’), distância intermolares (C), comprimento do arco (D+E), perímetro do arco (F) e índice de Little (IL), de um grupo de 30 pacientes, sendo 20 do sexo feminino e dez do masculino, onde a média de idade foi de 21,83 anos e o tempo médio de tratamento foi de 1,33 anos, sem tratamento ortodôntico ou ortopédico prévio. As medidas foram aferidas nos modelos de gesso superiores no início do tratamento e após o alinhamento e nivelamento, ou seja, um mês após a inserção de fios retangulares 0,019 x 0,025’ de aço dentro da canaleta do braquete. Concluiu-se que não houve um aumento estatisticamente significante da distância intercaninos, e que houve um aumento estatisticamente significante das distâncias interpré-molares e intermolares, do comprimento e do perímetro do arco.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to evaluate changes in the dimensions of dental arches during the alignment and leveling in cases treated with self-ligating appliances. The study was conducted in patients with complete permanent dentition till first molars. The following measures were evaluated intercanine distance (A), interpremolar distance (B) (B’), intermolar distance (C), arch length (D+E), arch perimeter (F) and index of Little (IL) in a group of 30 patients, containing 20 females and 10 males, with a mean initial age of 21.83 years, and the mean treatment time was 1.33 years, without previous orthodontic or orthopedic treatments. The measurements were taken in maxillary study models at the beginning of treatment and after the alignment and leveling, considered one month after rectangular steel wires were inserted within the slot of the bracket. It was concluded that there was no statistically significant increase in intercanine distance, and there was a statistically significant increase of interpremolar and intermolar distance, and in the length and perimeter of arch.
