A study of ocular prostheses. I. Manufacture and indications for use

ABSTRACT

The authors studied 30 male and female patients with anophtalmia caused by accidental injury. Ocular prostheses mounted on acrylic resins were manufactured for these patients. The authors propose a technical sequence of prostheses mounting that will facilitate the manufacturing task of the prostheses maker. Attention is also called to the esthetic values of the prostheses. The authors point the use of acrylic resin for prostheses construction because of its esthetic qualities and greater resistance to the action of the secretions of the anophtalmic socket
