Quality of Work Life and Happiness in the Workplace Strategies of Mahidol University’s Personnel

ABSTRACT
The aim of this cross-sectional survey was to define quality of work life and happiness development strategies of Mahidol University. The samples were personnel of Mahidol University from 17 units who were trained during the administrative development project III of Mahidol University. All personnel would answer the questionnaires voluntarily and intentionally. Overall, 390 (79.27%) of 492 questionnaires were returned from 11-21 September 2006. The unit of analyses was in the organisational level. The statistics such as percentage, mean, and standard deviation were performed to describe the samples. Results show many job characteristics were at moderate to high level. When measuring motivation potential score (MPS) in each characteristic, the MPS was lower than standard norms (MPS=114). The overall opinion on workplace environment showed the requirement to maintain a work life, and stress in workplace was at a good level but still needed improvement; quality of life in work life was at a moderate level and the happiness was at a satisfactory level. Recommendation Four strategies of qualities of work life at workplace and happiness were purposed Strategies on strengthening motivation, creation and promotion of an environment in workplace to support a good work life, increasing quality of life and happiness during work life and participation toward sustainable happiness with three main strategies on prevention, promotion, monitoring and co-ordination.
