Social Media Addiction and Empathy among Emerging Adults

ABSTRACT

Background:

The current study aims to find the correlation between social media addiction and empathy among emerging adults ranging from the age 16-24. It also aims to investigate whether there is a significant difference in the empathy and social media addiction with respect to age and gender.

Methodology:

The current study aims to find the correlation between social media addiction and empathy among emerging adults ranging from the age 16-24. It also aims to investigate whether there is a significant difference in the empathy and social media addiction with respect to age and gender.

Results:

The results suggested that there is no correlation between social media addiction and empathy amongst emerging adults. When empathy was compared between males and females who are addicted to social media, there was a significant difference, but when compared between the age groups of 16-24 years, there was no significant difference. The researcher also found that there was no significant difference in social media addiction with respect to both gender and age.

Conclusion:

Out of the five hypotheses of this study, four of them were accepted. No significant correlation between social media addiction and empathy was found. Further studies are needed in this direction.
