OBJECTIVETo investigate the constituents of essential oil of honeyed red ginseng, and provide scientific basis for its quality evaluation.

METHODThe essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation and separated by capillary GC. The chemical constituents were determined by normalization and were identified by MS.

RESULTOne-hundred ninety-five chromatographic peaks were detected and among them 76 compounds were identified, which were 78.27% of the total essential oil.

CONCLUSIONThe main constituents of the essential oil were sesquiterpenoids. Among identified compounds, 24 monoterpenoids and sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the essential oil of red ginseng for the first time.
