ABSTRACT
The Wenchuan earthquake which took place on May 12 impelled people to sense the life for its severity and value and urge them to review the perception and behavior of life. The "in awe of bioethics" by Albert Schweitzer reveals that the basic ethical principle is respecting the life and elaborates the theme of holding, improving and esteeming life.In his theory,he advocates the spirit of sharing common weal and woe in the crisis and criticizes the blind egoism with expanded desires and the limited professional idea that leads to the deviant from the concept of respecting life. All of these show considerable theoretical and practical significance on our understanding of the value the concept "in awe of bioethics" should has in the field of culture, human nature and behavior and lead us to the conscious of respecting life.
