ABSTRACT
Transfer of interferon-induced viral resistance from human lympnocytes to numau amnion FL cells was studied by using dye uptake method.Lymphocytes pretreated with Human IFN-?(500u/ml)and then cocultured with FL cells at a 51 ratio for 4 hours can efficiently transfer the IFN-induced viral resistance to FL cells. This process depended on the close contact and sutable ratio of donor lymphocytes to recipient FL cells at a given density.Antiviral activity in the cocultured homologous cells was not blocked by sheep antisera to Namalva-IFN,but could be prevented by rotatingcocultures.Specific ~(51)Cr release and staining with vital dyes showed little effect ofcell-mediated cytotoxicity on FL cells, which expressed the transfered antiviral state. These findings suggest that the IFN-induced signal molecules on membrances of lympho-cytes might have served as an important mediator in induced transfer action. Thus thepathway of transfered antiviral activity may be a new and efficient host defense aga-inst viral ections.
