ABSTRACT
Obesity and overweight is a major risk factor for health and its prevalence is dramatically increasing in recent. Increased maternal weight during or before pregnancy is associated with adverse maternal and offspring outcomes including subfertility, hypertensive disorder, diabetes, thromboembolism, macrosomia, congenital anomaly, and perinatal morbidity. In recent, the hypotheses of "Fetal programming" or "Developmental programming" emphasize the importance of fetal under- or over-nutrition for long term health of the offspring. Obese or overweight pregnant women should be counseled regarding these risks and managed to reduce adverse outcomes.
