ABSTRACT
Epilepsy is a common chronic recurrent disease in the central nervous system, while its pathogenesis is complicated, and the clinical treatment is difficult with serious impact on human health. It is believed that the pathogenesis of epilepsy is associated with ion channels, neurotransmitters, and immunity.Microglia are known as resident macrophages in the central nervous system as a neuropathological role. However, these immune cells are mainly involved in regulating synapses and other functions.Recent studies have shown that microglia play an important role in the pathogenesis of epilepsy. This article reviews the role of microglia in the development of epilepsy.
