ABSTRACT
Objective To explore the correlated risk factors for the infection after a total hip replacement. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted in 200 elderly patients undergoing total hip replacement in our hospital from January 2012 to December 2015.A single factor analysis and a multivariate Logistic regression analysis were used to identify the associated risk factors. Results Among 200 patients, the incidence rate of postoperative infection was 7.5 %.Based on the single factor analysis, diabetes, preoperative serum protein level, smoking, operation time, intraoperative bleeding volume, postoperative drainage time,long-term steroid use,and history of hip surgery were closely associated with the infection after total hip replacement(all P<0.05).Further multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that diabetes, smoking, long operation time, long postoperative drainage time, long history of steroid use,and history of hip surgery were independent factors for the infection after total hip replacement(all P>0.05).Conclusions Diabetes, smoking, long operation time, long drainage time, long term hormone usage, and history of hip joint surgery are independent factors associated with the infection after total hip replacement.Clinically, these risk factors targeting prevention and treatment strategies can be adopted to reduce the incidence of infection.
