Os benefícios da equoterapia em crianças com Síndrome de Down / The benefi ts of hippotherapy in children with Down Syndrome

RESUMO

No tratamento de uma criança com síndrome de Down é necessária uma equipe multidisciplinar, bem como diferentes abordagens terapêuticas. O presente trabalho enfoca o trabalho desenvolvido pela equoterapia e tem por objetivo analisar os impactos da prática terapêutica da equoterapia em crianças com síndrome de Down. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura científi ca com amostra fi nal de 12 artigos nacionais e internacionais levantados junto ao PubMed e a Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), utilizando-se as bases de dados SciELO, Medline, Lilacs e o Google Acadêmico. Dos artigos investigados, nove são estudos de casos sem grupo controle e três com desenho transversal. Os artigos mostram que essa prática terapêutica se mostra promissora na reabilitação da criança acometida com síndrome de Down. Apesar de serem poucas as abordagens das pesquisas sobre os impactos psicossociais nas crianças com síndrome de Down, os estudos trazem observações positivas. Conclui-se que a prática da equoterapia pode ser considerada como uma abordagem que colabora para o tratamento das crianças com síndrome de Down. No entanto, o nível de evidência apresentado nos estudos demonstra que ainda não há dados conclusivos na literatura científi ca mundial para se julgar benefícios e riscos da equoterapia....(AU)

ABSTRACT

In the treatment of a child with Down syndrome, a multidisciplinary team is needed, as well as diff erent therapeutic approaches. This work focuses on the work of the hippotherapy and aims to analyze the impacts of the therapeutic practice of hippotherapy in children with Down syndrome. This is an integrative review of the scientifi c literature with a fi nal sample of 12 national and international articles collected from the PubMed and Virtual Health Library (VHL), using the Scielo databases, Medline, Lilacs and Google Scholar. The investigated articles, nine are case studies without a control group and three with cross-sectional design. The articles show that this therapy seems promising practice in the rehabilitation of children aff ected with Down syndrome. Although they are few approaches to research on the psychosocial impact on children with Down syndrome, studies bring positive remarks. It follows that the practice of hippotherapy can be considered as an approach that works for the treatment of children with Down syndrome. However, the level of evidence presented in the studies show that there is no data in the world scientifi cliterature conclusive to judge benefi ts and risks of the hippotherapy....(AU)
