RESUMO

Este trabalho tem como objetivo refletir sobre a finitude e sua contextualização histórica através do filme O Sétimo Selo de Ingmar Bergman. Discute a visão do cineasta, especialmente a existência humana tendo como eixo condutor uma reflexão sobre envelhecimento e morte, questões ligadas ao sentido da vida. Utilizamos a pesquisa documental e bibliográfica, convidando autores a dialogarem com uma arte expressa por imagens e palavras, útil e pertinente quando se estuda temas angustiantes como finitude e envelhecimento. Bergman, a partir da sua própria perspectiva existencialista, trabalha questões como a manipulação da fé pela Igreja, a exploração da ideia da peste como castigo divino e a expiação dos pecados pela dor. A investigação realizada cumpre seu objetivo, mostra que a arte que se faz através do cinema se resume na busca do conhecimento como chave para a compreensão das inquietudes do que representa o morrer para um Ser Finito, independente da velhice.(AU)

ABSTRACT

This paper aims at reflecting on the finitude and its historical contextualization through the movie The Seventh Seal by Ingmar Bergman. It discusses the view of the filmmaker, especially human existence, having as a guide axis a reflection on aging and death, issues related to the meaning of life. We use documentary and bibliographical research, inviting authors to dialogue with an art expressed through images and words, useful and relevant when studying distressful topics such as finitude and aging. Bergman, from his own existentialist perspective, works issues such as the manipulation of faith by the Church, the exploration of the idea of plague as divine punishment and atonement for sins through pain. The investigation fulfills its purpose, shows that the art made through the cinema summarizes itself in the searching of knowledge as the key to understanding the disquietude of what means the dying for a Finite Being, regardless of age.(AU)
