RESUMEN

Los objetivos de esta revisión son conocer la anatomía del sistema de drenaje lacrimonasal y las causas de obstrucción, revisar la técnica de la dacriocistografía convencional y actualizar al lector en los métodos de imagen más recientes. La dacriocistografía fue el primer método usado para evaluar el sistema de drenaje de los conductos lacrimales. Indicada para la valoración de las causas de epífora obstructiva, actualmente persiste como el patrón de oro para este fin, ya que permite confirmar o descartar la sospecha de obstrucción del sistema de drenaje lacrimonasal a través de la inyección de medio de contraste. Las causas de obstrucción son múltiples, y pueden ocurrir en cualquier sitio del sistema. Dentro de las principales encontramos las infecciosas, las inflamatorias, las congénitas, las tumorales y las traumáticas. La técnica de la dacriocistografía ha avanzado desde su descripción inicial y se han agregado nuevos métodos de imagen, como la tomografía computarizada, la resonancia magnética y la ecografía para el estudio de las causas de obstrucción del sistema de drenaje lacrimonasal. ABSTRACT

Dacryocystography was the first method used to evaluate the lacrimal drainage system. It is indicated for the evaluation of patients with obstructive epiphora. Currently, dacryocystography is considered the "gold standard "for this purpose, given that it enables to confirm or disregard the suspicion of obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct system through the injection of contrast media. Some of the main causes include the infectious, inflammatory, congenital, tumoral or traumatic causes. It is necessary to understand the anatomy of the lacrimal drainage system in order to identify and characterize their different lesions. Since the initial description of the dacryocystography technique, new imaging methods have been used to detect the causes of obstruction of the nasolacrimal drainage system, emphasizing the indications of each one. These methods include computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound. The purpose of this review is to understand the anatomy of the lacrimal drainage system, the causes of obstruction; also to review the conventional dacryocystography technique and update in the recent imaging methods.
