[Abruptio placentae]

ABSTRACT
This research included /122/ cases of Abruptio Placentae which were referred to Aleppo University Hospital during one complete year. For every patient under study the following steps were taken - Card with all primary clinical information.- Blood examinations [blood group, Hemoglobin. etc]. The rate of Abruptio Placentae was [2.4%]; most of the cases occurred with women of age between / 30-40 / years [53.3%]; the highest rate of Abruptio Placentae was recorded with women having 5 or more children [57.4%] of the cases. The most important causes were Multi para and hypertension. We noticed that vaginal bleeding was found in [73.8%] of the cases, hypertonus in [67.2%] dead fetus in [31.1%] back ache in [27.8%], idiopathic premature labor in [26.2%], fetal distress in [24.5%], and high frequency contractions in [10.6%] of the cases. Most of the bleeding forms were mixed haemorrhage, and most occurring cases were the moderate intensity ones, wich reached [43.5%]. The diagnosis was clinical and was confirmed with Echography. Delivery in [80.3%] of our patients was vaginal' The prenatal mortality were 62 ones making [50.8%] of the cases. The death of the fetus decreased, as weight and period of gestation increased. The number of the complicated cases was 45 with a ratio of [36.8%] haemorrhagic shock [7.4%], acute renal failure [4%], coagulation defect [10.6%], utero placental apoplexy [3.3%], and post partum haemorrhage [11.5%]. The maternal death reached [1.6%]. The results of our study indicate that there was high percentage of complications and prenatal mortality, which had to be overcome by proper treatment
