ABSTRACT

Background:

To examine The benefit of high dose Methyl prednisolonM.P[1g/1, 73m2/d] in prevention of esophageal Stenosis due to grade II caustic burns. Materials and

Methods:

It is known that M.P has a systemic effects to reduce the esophageal inflammatory reactions after the caustic burns and subsequently prevents from the Stenosis. This Prospective study was carried out in Damascus Children hospital. 30 children with grade II esophageal caustic burns injuries were involved over a period of 2 years [1/6/2007-1/6/2009] M.Pwas given [1g/1, 73m2/d] over 10 days Then Pending on improvement with Endoscopy, the Treatment was extended to 15 or 20 days.

Results:

This study involved 30 children with caustic injuries. The age was between[8m-11y].. Boys were more affected as, 21[70%] were boys, 9[30%]were girls Alkalines were the most cause 19[63, 3%]. The recovery rate was 86, 6%. In One of our retrospective studies [without the application of M.P] the recovery rate was 53% [pvalue=0, 0035].

Conclusion:
