Clinical and biochemical changes in a group of pesticide sprayers

ABSTRACT
80 male sprayers and 30 control subjects were examined clinically and some biochemical tests were done to evaluate the effect of exposure to organophosphorous pesticides [O.P.]. Some acute symptoms were reported after exposure such as, headache, giddiness, nausea, eye and skin irritation. Significant effect was found on the level of liver function, namely SGPT, SGOT, alkaline phosphatase [ALK.PH.], and total proteins [Tot.pr.]. The level of choline esterase [Ch.E.], was significantly decreased in the exposed group. The duration of exposure proved a positive significant correlation to liver function except the total protein and a negative significant correlation to the level of Ch.E. Also the effect of smoking was discussed. Some recommendations were suggested in conclusion:
